AIDSWALK 2008 Volunteer Positions
 

Volunteer Duty: Balloons
Description: Take balloons clusters to various locations on park grounds.
Shift: 4:30am-6:30am
Required Skills: Ability to follow directions, ability to walk around course, flexibility and a positive attitude.

Volunteer Duty: Cheerleaders
Description: Motivate walkers and runners during walk/run. 
Shift: 6:30-10:00am
Required Skills: Energetic, enthusiastic, willing to yell and shout!

Volunteer DutyCourse Marshalls
Description:  Stay on course to monitor flow of walkers/runners.
Shifts: 5:45am-11:00am

Volunteer Duty: Floaters
Description: Your job will vary depending on where we need volunteers.  Be prepared for slow periods where you may not be needed; when you aren’t working, you MUST wait in the Volunteer Check-In Area.  
Shifts: 4:00-9:30am, 9:00am-1:30pm
Required Skills: Flexible, ability to think quickly, willing to go where needed

Volunteer Duty: Food Sponsor Booth Helper
Description: Distribute food and promotional materials to walkers and runners.
Shift:    6:00-11:30; 8:30 – 11:30
Required Skills: Ability to deal with lots of activity and crowds.

Volunteer Duty: Greeters
Description: Guide participants to appropriate areas (volunteer/walker check in, etc.)
Required Skills: Ability to deal with lots of activity, outgoing and energetic.

Volunteer Duty: Incentives
Description: Pass out incentives (T-shirts, walker bottles, etc.) to walkers.
Shift: 6:00 - 8:45am
Required Skills: Ability to deal with lots of activity, enjoys interacting with others.

Volunteer Duty: KidZone
Description: Supervise youth activities.
Shift: 6:30-11:00am
Required Skills: Experience working with kids/youth, patient, high energy, creative

Volunteer Duty: Monday Unload
Description: Unload supplies from the event.
Shift:
Required Skills: Able to carry boxes of supplies, willing to stand for shift.

Volunteer Duty: Parking/Security
Description:  Direct traffic to appropriate parking areas and control traffic in pedestrian areas.  Assist with security issues as they arise.
Shift: 5:45-8:30am, 8:00-11:30am (later shift will replace earlier shift when convenient)
Required Skills: Ability to stand for extended periods, ability to work in a team.

Volunteer DutyRoute Coordination Set up/Take Down
Description:  Set up route boundaries for walk and run.  Set up water stations and balloon markers.  Set up other aspects of the walk as needed.
Shifts: 3:30-7:00am, 9:00-11:00am
Required Skills: Able to lift heavy objects, able to work quickly

Volunteer DutySaturday Load-up
Description: Meet at SAAF to load truck with supplies for event.  After truck is loaded, volunteers must be able to drive up to U of A to unload and set up for the event.
Shift:  Saturday, 7am-1pm
Required Skills:  Able to move quickly, able to lift boxes of supplies.

Volunteer Duty Saturday Set-Up II
Description: Set up for event the day before at U of A
Shift: Saturday, 9am-3pm
Required Skills: Able to move quickly, able to lift boxes of supplies.

Volunteer DutySunday Set Up
Description:  Set up barricades and other essential parts of the event.
Shift: 3:00-7:00am
Required Skills: Able to lift heavy objects.

Volunteer Duty Staging
Description: Help coordinate activities related to morning stage program.
Shift:  5am-10am
Required Skills: Quick and energetic, good communication skills

Volunteer Duty: Take Down  
Description: Take down route boundaries, water stations, barricades, etc.
Shift:  9:00 am-1:30 pm 
Required Skills: Strong, must be able to lift heavy objects and move quickly

Volunteer Duty: Team Photos
Description: Write down names of walkers as photos are taken, assist photographer as needed, help energize and motivate teams for photographers.
Shift: 7:30-11:00am
Required Skills: Enthusiastic, organized, legible handwriting

Volunteer Duty Volunteer Check-in
Description: Check in volunteers.
Shift: 2:30 - 8:30am, 8:30-10:30am
Required Skills: Organized, able to handle large groups at once, oriented volunteers

Volunteer Duty Walker Registration
Description: Register walkers.  Ensure that walker information and donation amounts are complete and accurate.  Distribute incentive coupons and direct walkers to incentive area, if necessary.
Shift: 6:00-8:30am
Required Skills: Ability to think quickly; excellent multi-tasking skills, ability to handle large crowds. This position requires your attendance at an orientation.
